I ask today’s question because we all have objects or things that are important to us. Some of the subjects can be money, The job, or relationships. I am not saying this are always bad but when we start to put them in front of God they become idols. I started to watch a series on Right Media called “Gods at War” by Kyle Idleman. He starts out asking his daughter about all the ten commandments and getting replies on wich one she has broken or not. I know I would not have looked at that one the way he did. He focused on the fact that we put world things in front of God. If you had to start to go down the list of items you put in front of Him what would it be? I know that the Bible has a lot to say about this subject.
What does the Bible say about…….
Most of the idols that are in the Bible where hand made for an example” when Moses went the mountain and came back down the group had made a golden calf and was worshiping it.”
The Bible tells us in Exodus 34:17 “You shall not make for yourself any gods of cast metal.” To me, this is pretty self-explanatory. expensive items in life can start to become an idol like jewelry or I have to have this kind of car to look good.
In Luke 9:25 He tells more about idols saying “For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?” In this verse, He starts to talk about gaining power in the world and money. I remember the saying “Money is the root of all evil.” I do believe is because most wars are started over money. If you are blessed with money at least give it bless others too. Just make sure that the money is not ruling your life.
I love how Psalm 96:5 puts it in layman terms. “For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens.” To me, this speaks out to me very load anything that I do before God is worthless. playing a video game that shoots men, driving a fancy car, the list can go on. Even being a relationship with a person can become an idol if you do not put God first. What item or thing are you planning to give up and start to worship the God?
As you go through today be thankful for the things you do have and are blessed with. A roof over your head, food to eat, great friends you can count on. And the list can go on. But always be thankful and not put to much idol power to them. I continue to pray for you and your life before you.
