Today is Memorial Day here in America. It is a day where we take a day to remember the men and women who fought for our freedom we have today. I know that not every country has the freedom that we have and we are praying for you today. I have wanted to attend a flag in a ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery. On Memorial Weekend the Old Gard places a small American flag at all the grave sites for all Military Veterans that are buried there. What an honor it would be to see this. What are some ways you can honor our heroes of today?
Ways to Honor our Heroes.
The most important thing you can do is respect them in what they did for your country. Below is a few suggestion that you can do.
- When you see a person in uniform thank them for serving our country. Most times it is not a glamorous job. They work long hours and most of the time go through the day with nothing said to them. Teach your young ones to start to thank them.
- When you are out at a restaurant and see a family and a person in uniform ask to pay the waiter if you can pay for their meal. If you like you can go thank them for their service and gladly pay their bill for them. I bet it will put a smile on their face and bless them.
- Send a care package to a person overseas. Most of the items we take for granted are not available over where they are stationed. A few magazines, Baby wipes, toothbrush and toothpaste, and snacks are a good start on things to send. Always send more than one item if you can because they will share it.
This list is a start to what you can do if you think of any others or in the military I would love to hear some things you like to be done in the comment section. What does the Bible say about honoring people?
The Bible Tells Us…..
The Bible mentions honoring people several times in the books of the Bible. I want to start out with children and parents. To me I find this one to be very sad that I do not see it as often as I like. In Ephesians 6:1-4 says “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” I love this verse because it not just talking to the children but also the parents. Yes, I do believe in disciplining a child but also know that there are ways to do it without always a spanking or yelling at them.
The next one is marriage. We need to set standards in households and it starts with a strong marriage. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:4 to “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.” Have you heard the saying if they do not know it will not hurt them? Well, that saying is very wrong in a marriage setting. God wants us to be one with each other in the marriage. If you are struggling in this area there is help go seek it. I heard of times when things went wrong and God restored the marriage.
The last one is God himself and how we are to honor him. In Romans 13:1-7 it tells us “13 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.7 Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.” I know that pretty sums up our life and what we should be doing. We need to take this verse to heart and follow it daily. As we follow these and other passages in the Bible never forget who the creator of you is God. He knew you before you were a twinkle in your mother’s eye.
As you enjoy your day off or have to go to work like I do. Remember the true reason Christ died on the cross for your sins and mine. Never forget the sacrifices that our Military has done for us. Take a minute out of your day and pray for your country, your leader of your town, state, and country.
Thank you for stopping by and the continued love and support you have for me. I know I do not get many comments but know that people are reading this post all over this world and if makes a difference that all that matters. Have a wonderful day and enjoy the past post to.
Have a blessed day,
